How to Connect External Strobes to the Salted Line UW Housing for Sony A6xxx
Hey everyone,
External strobes are one of the best ways to take your underwater photography to the next level. They give you powerful, directional light, bring back natural colours and cut down backscatter significantly.
The Salted Line waterproof camera housing for the Sony A6xxx series was designed with this in mind. It comes with dual fiber optic ports, so you can easily connect one or two external strobes using Fiber optic cables.
In Sony A6xxx underwater housing, the camera’s built-in pop-up flash is used to fire external strobes via fiber optic cable.
In this guide we show you exactly how to connect everything, just like in video on our YouTube channel. The whole setup works through optical triggering with your camera’s built-in flash.
Compatible Cameras
This guide works with:
- Sony A6500

Step-by-Step Connection Guide
1. Prepare everything
Start by making sure the Salted Line waterproof camera housing is clean and completely dry. Remove the protective caps from the dual fiber optic ports and check that nothing is blocking them. (Photo 1)

2. Connect the other end to the strobe
First, attach one end of the fiber optic cable to the optical input port on your external strobe. Make sure it goes all the way in and sits securely. (Photo 2,3)

3. Lubricate the fiber optic cable
Before inserting the cable into the housing, apply a thin layer of Original silicon grease to both ends. This helps create a good seal and makes the cable slide in smoothly. Only use the original grease. (Photo 4)

4. Connect the cable to the housing
Take the free end of the fiber optic cable and push it firmly into one of the ports on the Salted Line waterproof camera housing. Try to keep the cables neat so they don’t get in the way. (Photo 5,6)

5. Final check
Double-check that both ends of the cable are properly connected. The cable shouldn’t be pinched or bent sharply. (Photo 7)

Getting the Fiber optic cable connection right is key to reliable strobe performance underwater. Follow these steps and you’ll have a clean, solid setup every time.
